Learn about connecting to the network and getting tech support during Move-In here
The AirBears2 network is available throughout the residence halls and on campus, with the exception of family housing apartments at University Village (where Wi-Fi is currently available in common spaces only).
To use AirBears2, you must have a valid CalNet ID (which most residents receive before coming to campus) and create an AirBears2 key. Go to ist.berkeley.edu/airbears to create your key and for additional information about this service.
AT&T Wi-Fi is available throughout most residence halls and campus locations. Current AT&T customers with a qualifying Internet, smartphone, or LaptopConnect plan can access the “attwifi” network where it is provided.
CalVisitor provides basic network access for visitors to campus who do not have a CalNet ID.
The eduroam network provides world-wide roaming access for the international research and education community. UC Berkeley faculty, staff, and students can use eduroam on campus and when visiting other participating institutions.
Please note that personal wireless routers are not permitted in the residence halls where Wi-Fi is already provided. Their signals can cause interference, which disrupts and degrades network connectivity for everyone. More information is available in our Wi-Fi FAQ.
For residents of University Village where campus-provided Wi-Fi is not currently available, you may set up your own Wi-Fi network by purchasing a wireless router. You must configure your router to not interfere with the residence hall wireless network. Please keep in mind that you will be responsible for any network traffic that comes from your wireless router.
Wi-Fi Security: Because information sent over personal wireless networks is vulnerable to being compromised, we strongly recommend consulting with ResComp about wireless security. We can offer help in person, by email, or over the phone.
Each dorm room and campus apartment is equipped with an Ethernet port that connects to ResComp’s wired network. To access your in-room connection, plug your computer into an available Ethernet port (requires an Ethernet cable) and complete our short, online registration process.
While you can register multiple computers or devices, only one can be connected to the Internet at a time via Ethernet because each resident is allotted one IP address. If you want to use multiple devices simultaneously, you can connect to the AirBears2 wireless network.
